Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Vertex Reader (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

These Terms form a binding agreement between you and Vertex Reader. We may update these Terms at any time — continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

2. Service Description

Vertex Reader is an AI-powered platform for discovering, tracking, and reading manhwa (Korean web comics). Core features include:

• Reading Library — track titles with reading status, ratings, notes, and progress sync across devices.
• Community Sources — user-created scraping configurations that point to third-party websites. Sources go through a community approval workflow before becoming public.
• AI Strategy Generation — an AI-assisted tool that analyses a target website's structure and generates a scraping strategy, consuming credits.
• Chapter Updates — scheduled checks that monitor sources for new chapters and notify you via your chosen channels.
• Credits System — a token economy for AI-powered features, available via monthly grants (Pro) or one-time purchases.

3. User Accounts

• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and session. Do not share your credentials.
• You may only hold one account per person. Creating duplicate accounts to circumvent limits or bans is prohibited.
• You must provide accurate information during registration. Impersonating another person or entity is prohibited.
• You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Create sources that target websites which explicitly prohibit automated access in their terms of service, unless you have written permission from that site's operator.
• Use the Service to scrape, copy, or redistribute content in a way that infringes on a content creator's or publisher's intellectual property rights.
• Attempt to circumvent rate limits, credit checks, title limits, or other platform constraints through exploits, duplicate accounts, or automated abuse.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or scrape the Vertex Reader platform itself (its API, web app, or admin panel).
• Upload malicious source strategies designed to harm users or the platform.
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable law.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' accounts or data.

Vertex Reader reserves the right to remove any source that violates these rules and to suspend accounts engaged in systematic abuse.

5. Subscription & Billing

Free Tier

The Free tier is available at no cost and includes access to community sources, basic reader capabilities, and in-app notifications. Free accounts are limited to 50 titles in the library.

Pro Subscription

Pro is billed at $4.99/month and includes unlimited titles, 50 monthly credits, priority source syncing, advanced reader settings, Telegram and Discord notifications, and offline reading. Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the next billing date.

Credits

Credits power AI features. Pro subscribers receive 50 credits per billing cycle. Additional credits can be purchased in packs (pricing shown at checkout). Credits are non-refundable except at our sole discretion. Unused credits do not roll over between billing cycles for monthly grants; purchased credit packs do not expire until account deletion.

Billing & Refunds

All billing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your card number or full payment instrument details. Subscription charges are non-refundable except where required by applicable consumer-protection law. If you believe a charge was made in error, contact us within 14 days of the charge.

Cancellation

You may cancel your Pro subscription at any time via Settings → Subscription → Manage Plan. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain Pro access until then.

6. AI Features & Credits

• AI features (strategy generation, chapter summaries, smart recommendations, auto-tagging, etc.) consume credits upon use. The credit cost for each feature is displayed before confirmation.
• If you provide your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key, it is used to power your AI requests in place of platform keys. Your key is encrypted at rest and never shared.
• AI-generated content (strategies, summaries, tags) is produced by third-party language models. We make no guarantee of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any purpose. You are responsible for reviewing AI output before relying on it.
• We are not liable for any costs incurred on your own API keys due to usage within the platform.

7. Content & Intellectual Property

Third-Party Content

Vertex Reader is an aggregator. We do not host, create, own, or distribute manhwa or manga content. All titles, chapters, and images are sourced from third-party websites via user-created sources. We cache images to improve loading performance, but do not claim ownership of that content.

If you are a rights holder and believe content accessible through our platform infringes your copyright, please contact us at the address in Section 13. We will respond promptly and take appropriate action, which may include removing the offending source.

User-Created Sources

By submitting a source for community approval, you represent that you have the right to create automated access to that target website, or that the target site's terms of service permit such access. You are solely responsible for ensuring your sources comply with third-party terms.

Platform Content

The Vertex Reader platform — including its design, branding, logo, UI, and source code — is owned by Vertex Reader and protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or create derivative works from our platform without written permission.

8. Termination

You may delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete Account. This permanently removes your profile, library, reading progress, credits, and subscriptions. Account deletion is irreversible.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at our discretion if we determine you have violated these Terms, engaged in abuse, or posed a risk to the platform or other users. In cases of serious violations, we may terminate without prior notice.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that community sources will function correctly. Third-party websites may change their structure, block access, or go offline at any time, causing sources to break. We are not responsible for the availability or accuracy of content from third-party sources.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, VERTEX READER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR SERVICE INTERRUPTION, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

11. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you via in-app notification or email. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Service shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation in the first instance. If unresolved, disputes may be submitted to binding arbitration or the competent courts of the applicable jurisdiction.
